I have been seeking out the online gambling websites with the biggest jackpots for a while now. What I have found out is that all of the biggest progressive jackpots are all slots. These are the only progressive jackpots that grow to over $1 million.

The second closest is usually the Caribbean Stud Poker jackpots or any jackpots that use a Royal Flush as the trigger the 100% winner of the progressive jackpot. This is because the odds of getting a Royal Flush in a 5 card stud hand is about 1 in every 650,000 hands. However, the player still needs to bet the $1 progressive to win the progressive, which may not always happen.

The only way that a slot machine progressive can be a higher total is if it pays out less often than Caribbean Stud. This is the problem; you are hoping for a more than one-in-a-million spin on a progressive slot jackpot which makes it more like a lottery.

Winning the Progressive Jackpot in Slots

So, why isn’t the progressive jackpot won very often? This is primarily because millions of people play the lottery, which makes it likely that someone beat that one in several million chance. However, you are paying $5 or so per spin for a chance to win a progressive slot jackpot. This is something that only several thousands of other players are doing.

Because of this, the odds that one player will spin the one in several million payline hit is very low. If 10,000 progressive slots players all played 1000 spins on a progressive jackpot, it wouldn’t even equal the chance of one person hitting the Powerball or Mega Millions every drawing.

The reason is that there is usually a 3/64 chance of receiving the progressive jackpot icon (something every slots jackpot has) on any one reel (64 virtual stops on the reel and 3 stops that show on the reel). This means that there is only 1 jackpot icon out of 64 on the reel. Multiply that exponentially by 5 reels and you have a very low chance. Not as low as winning the lottery, but your chance still isn’t that high.

Now that I’ve drummed the odds of winning the jackpot into your heads, its time to give you a real reason to actually play a progressive slot machine.

One thing that you need to understand is that there are many people who win big at online slots sites progressive jackpots.

The money doesn’t just all go to the winner in a lottery draw. People with 3 or 4 numbers will still win something. This is the same in a progressive jackpot. The odds are that you will still be able to win several hundreds with a single spin.

Progressive Slots usually pay out at about a 95% rate. This means if you keep playing thousands of spins, you will eventually be expected to lose overall. However, the slot machines are programmed to balance this out. If everyone lost all of the time, no one would ever play slots. Many of the multi-million dollar progressive slot machines don’t hit the jackpot very often at all. That is why they are able to reach over a million dollars.

Why would you want to play a progressive slot that already hit? The main reason is because you now know that this progressive jackpot is attainable. When the progressive jackpot stays relatively low, you know that there is money being won. Maybe it isn’t always a progressive winner, but the money isn’t all going straight to building a giant jackpot that is nearly impossible to win.

As you can see from the screenshot above, Cleopatra’s Gold is not the only progressive jackpot game that is offered at Slotsville. There are several other progressive slot machines as well as progressive jackpots for three different styles of Caribbean Poker and a Let’ Em Ride jackpot that is currently over $168,000! To win the progressive jackpot in these table games, you must bet $1 on the progressive and receive a Royal Flush. If you get a straight flush, you will win 10% of the jackpot.

Cleopatra’s Gold Progressive Slots

Cleopatra’s Gold is a 5 reel video slot with 25 paylines and a fixed bet of $1 per spin. The dollar per spin is one of the reasons that I like this progressive slot machine. Most of the other progressives that I have featured here have fixed bets between $5 and $7.50 to be eligible for the progressive jackpot. That can get pretty expensive fairly quickly.

All of the symbols are Ancient Egyptian themed. The Cleopatra symbol is the substitute. It not only acts as a wild card for other symbols, but it will double the payout from a payline when it is present. The Cleopatra symbol also helps win the progressive jackpot; you will need to get 5 of the symbol on a payline in order to win the jackpot.

The scatter symbol is the Pyramid. You will receive a multiple of your total bet when you receive two or more Pyramids anywhere on the reels. Three or more Pyramids will trigger the Free Games feature. You will receive 15 free games with triple the prizes for any wins during the feature. If you receive 3 or more Pyramids during the Free Games feature, an additional 15 free games will be added.

Aztec’s Millions is another progressive slot machine made by RTG. This is the second highest progressive jackpot that I have seen for US online casinos. Currently, the value of the jackpot is over $1.1 million.

If you want to win this massive jackpot, you need to line up 5 of the Aztec’s Millions jackpot icons on one of the 25 paylines. Remember that each video slot machine has a certain number of stops or places for icons to be on the reel. Usually for progressive jackpots, this number is 64. Of those 64 stops, only one of them has the jackpot icon on each reel. This is why its so difficult to win the progressive jackpot.

You will not need to worry about how much you are going to bet on each spin, because you have to bet $5 a spin. This bet automatically covers all 25 of the paylines, which makes the cost of one payline 20¢.

For anyone who is new to slots, a payline is a charted path across the 5 reels. In order to win a payline, you must line up any icon from the first reel (the one furthest to the left) and match the icon across the reels on one of the paylines path across the reels. You can obviously win on more than one payline at a time.

Here is an example of a very good win. This will help me explain two things at once. First of all, the Aztec Warrior icon is a wild or substitute icon. It is only found on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th reels and are grouped in a cluster of 3 on the reel. You don’t automatically have to get all three on the screen at once, you may only get one or two.

Also when you get a win, this slot machine does a really good job of telling you exactly what you have won. Not only is your total win plain to see, but if you look carefully you will see that this spin has won on 14 of the 25 paylines. This is because there are multiple paths that connect the first and third reels together and the wild cards complete all of them. After you have won, the payline wins will cycle and you can see exactly how much you won on each payline.

Below is the paychart for Aztec’s Millions. A couple things to notice is that it only takes one (1) of the Aztec’s Millions or Aztec Princess icons in order to win on a payline. The Panther and War Headdress only require two matching icons and all others require three matching icons to win on a payline. Also, you can see the path of each payline if you are interested.

What does this translate to as far as winning money? Let’s say you match three Aces on one payline. You would have paid $5 overall for the spin. The payline cost 20¢ and you won 10 times the cost of that payline or $2. This means the spin cost you $3 overall. If you get the Aztec’s Millions on the middle row of the first reel, you will have won on 9 paylines overall; times that by 5 for the payout per payline and you get $9 overall on a $5 bet.

Free Spins

One more feature that I haven’t talked about yet. You can get free spins if you get at least three (3) of the Sacred Idol scatter icons on top of winning at least 3 times your overall bet. Get three icons and win 5 free spins, four icons gets 15 free spins and five icons receive 25. The term “scatter” is used because it can be anywhere on the screen for you to win.

During free spins, all normal payouts for wins are tripled. You can also get more free spins during free spins play by receiving another scatter icon on the screen.
